Maplewood Stables is the premier equestrian center in Nevada and the surrounding area. Our staff is comprised of experts in the field, and we have produced such nationally and internationally acclaimed riders and horses such as Vinton Karrasch, By the Bay and Princeton. Please see our list to the right of some of our champions. In addition, numerous Maplewood students have gone on to be professionals in the horse business.
Julie Winkel, Owner
Julie Winkel, owner and founder of Maplewood Stables, is a USEF and CEF judge, and is frequently asked to judge competitions across the nation and internationally, including at Devon (three times), the Hampton Classic (twice), the Capital Challenge (three times), Upperville (three times), Harrisburg, Palm Beach, and the Maclay Finals in New York City.
Julie has over 20 years of teaching experience, and has trained many Pacific Coast and National Champion hunters and jumpers. She has qualified many riders and horses for indoor East Coast finals. Julie has served on PCHA and USAEq. Hunter Seat Equitation Committees and is a certified equine appraiser. She is currently serving on the USEF Judges committee, trainer certification committee, and the Officials Committee. Julie is also the guest judge for the new conformation clinic in PRACTICAL HORSEMAN, which is a monthly column much like George Morris' jumping clinic where individuals send pictures of their horses to the magazine and Julie places them in order with reasons.
Lyn Mundt, Breeding Manager
Our resident breeding manager, Lyn Mundt has held this position since our breeding program began in 2003. She has been a client of Maplewood's since the early 1980's. We couldn't do without her!
Kevin Winkel
 Kevin Winkel is another staff member you'll meet here occassionally. Kevin recently returned from Olympian Joe Fargis' east coast farm where he worked for two years, and is working as a trainer/ instructor at Maplewood. Kevin has shown the Maplewood Stallions in Grand Prix competitions in 2007 very successfully. In addition he has been a consistent winner in the young jumper competitions and is a very popular instructor at Maplewood.
Wendy Jaksick, Director of Riding School
Wendy Jaksick is an ARIA certified instructor who has recently moved her riding school, Galena Equestrian Center to Maplewood! She brings with her students ranging in age from 4 to 84 and teaches English, Western, Bareback and/or Natural Horsemanship in the arena or out on the trail. Wendy has spent her life working with horses. She grew up on a working cattle ranch in which she and her family still own and enjoy today. Wendy started showing Quarter Horses at the age of 5. She showed Western as a youngster, English Equitation and Jumpers as a teen and spent her adult life riding on the trail and learning Natural Horsemanship.
