Maplewood Stables is the premier equestrian center in Nevada and the surrounding area. Our staff is comprised of experts in the field, and we have produced such nationally and internationally acclaimed riders and horses such as Vinton Karrasch, By the Bay and Princeton. Please see our list to the right of some of our champions. In addition, numerous Maplewood students have gone on to be professionals in the horse business.
Julie B. Winkel, Owner
Julie Winkel is an USHJA Certified Trainer, an Emerging Athlete Talent Scout, a R USEF judge, as well as a CEF judge. She has held a license since 1984, and judged all the most prestigious shows in the country, including Devon, Harrisburg, Washington International, The National Horse Show, Capital Challenge, The Hampton Classic, Upperville, Wellington, Pony Finals & Hunter Breeding Finals. She has designed courses and judged the New England Equitation Finals, the ASPCA Maclay Finals, as well as the USEF Medal Finals (2010 with George Morris).
She has trained and shown hunters and jumpers to the top level, nationally and internationally. She has many Grand Prix wins as well as hunter championships throughout her career.
Julie Winkel is on the Board Of Directors and the planning committee for USHJA, serves as co-chair of the officials committee, sit on the Emerging Athletes Committee, Equitation Committee, Trainer Certification Program Committee, Zone 10 Jumper Committee, and the trainer symposium committee.
She is the chairman of the USEF Continuing Education Committee, sits on the Licensed Officials Committee, the National Hunter Committee and the Young Horse Task Force.
Julie owns and operates Maplewood Stables, Inc. in Reno, NV. Maplewood is a 150 acre training, sales and breeding facility. Maplewood has two stallions, Grand Prix jumpers-Osilvis and Cartouche Z. Besides judging, she gives clinics throughout the country and writes a monthly column for PRACTICAL HORSEMAN'S "Conformation Clinic."
Lyn Mundt, Breeding Manager
Our resident breeding manager, Lyn Mundt has held this position since our breeding program began in 2003. She has been a client of Maplewood's since the early 1980's. We couldn't do without her!
